Recently, one Facebook named Mary Marjorie Bugsocan shared a video of a young boy who swallowed a coin and stuck in his esophagus. Thankfully, a local doctor knows an immediate procedure on how to pull it out and save the kid from possible danger.
On the viral video, it can be seen how the local doctor saved the life of a 4-year-old boy who swallowed a coin in Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Misamis Occidental. By only using a catheter and syringe, he miraculously saved the life of the kid.
The X-ray result shows that the coin was stuck in his esophagus. Using a Foley catheter, the local health doctor identified as Dr. Eufranist Donggon Jornales managed to pull the coin out from his esophagus. He uses the syringe to inflate air and carefully pulled the catheter out.
News reports said that if the coin wasn’t pulled out, the child will possibly undergo surgery. Fortunately, Dr. Jornales didn’t just saved the kid from danger but also saving them from further financial damage.
What Dr. Jornales did amaze many as well as the private hospital who immediately offered him opportunities. But according to him, he will not give up his current position.
Dr. Jornales is based in the rural health unit in Don Victoriano in Misamis Occidental under the program of DOH “Doctors to the Barrio.”
This calls the attention of the parents and guardians to be careful in giving their children toys especially those hazardous and with little parts. Though we are not asking for it, the danger lies on the corner lurking to attack in an opportune time. Let’s always remember, prevention is cheaper than cure.
