In our diet, the most recommended vegetable to eat are those green leafy vegetables. Aside from it’s water content, these type of vegetables enables our fast metabolism and helps cleanse our body from toxins, which causes us to lose our fats and to keep our stomachs cleaner and our body healthier.
Kangkong with an English Name water spinach or swamp cabbage has been a staple food here in the Philippines. Aside from the fact that they are used to feed pigs and rabbits, they are most likely the best when cooked for people.
Adobong kangkong is its best type of menu, the salty and sour taste of the sauce when you eat the kangkong will always make your mouths water but there are others, especially those in a diet that only blanche (plunging the leaves on a boiling pot of water) the kangkong which is not that much advisable since most kangkong are harvested from swaps, which means they are exposed to different parasites and bacteria and thorough cleaning and cooking is needed.
A recent incident proves how deadly it is to not clean the kangkong. According to a post from “D Provincial Pal’s”, a young girl lost her life after cooking an uncleaned kangkong which wasn’t also thoroughly cooked. It was discovered that the kangkong the kid ate had a large parasitic intestinal fluke called Fasciolopsis buski, in larval syct form, that grew in number inside her stomach.
The girl started to complain about a stomach-ache after eating stir-fried kangkong, also for two days she has began to suffer from diarrhea.
She was brought to the hospital where the doctors saw the leeches that were inside her intestine which then became the reason for her d***h.
The Facebook page then gave out a warning to everyone with the post:
Cooking things half-cooked is good since it preserves the nutrients contained in the vegetable, but always consider your own safety first. Make sure you clean the vegetables thoroughly and as much as possible ensure that they are well-cooked. Since nothing makes a meal the best meal, unless it is not only delicious but also clean.
