In the Filipino tradition, Christmas caroling is indeed a great part. Children or adult groups goes door-to-door singing Christmas hymns and receive money as their Christmas spirit. Also, Christmas is intended to be spent together with family and friends.
This is the story of an 11 year old girl who only wished for a pair of Barbie shoes this Christmas. So she and a couple of her friends went Christmas caroling to save up for the shoes she wanted.
However, an unexpected event occurred in her family causing the girl to give all of her caroling money up.
Her mother was allegedly part of the list of people involved in illegal substances. With that, she was shot dead in a dark alley in Navotas. A single gunshot wound on her head.
It appears that this girl has already lost her father two years ago being found lifeless. Having signs of struggle upon finding his lifeless body. He was also part of the police watch list for illegal substance.
With her earnings she said “Yung naipon ko, ibibigay ko na lang kay Mama.”
In losing both parents, she would be tended and raised by her Grandmother. Upon questioning the involvement of her daughter on illegal substance, she wasn’t admit or say anything.
This incident is indeed heartbreaking but despite this the young girl continues to be brave and courageous. May all these k******s and accidents be stopped in this season of Christmas. This reminds us that life isn’t something we take for granted. Cherish the people you love while they are still with you.
